We are sad to announce the death of the founder of USMA and honorary president of A.D.D.I., Philip S. Porter, who died on August 7th 2011.
O-Sensei Porter is considered by many "The Father of American Judo". O-Sensei founded the USMA, helped founding the USJA, served as a Chairman of the AAU Judo Committee, was Chairman of the U.S. Olympic Judo Committee, Secretary General of the Pan American Judo Union and produced more than 1,000 national and international medalists in Judo over the past 50 years.
O-Sensei Porter did not only coach the US Judo Team, but he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1948, and served in the U.S. Army and Air Force for 25 years, retiring as a Major in 1967. Henceforth he dedicated exclusively to Martial Arts.
Due to his friendly and intense cooperation with the A.D.D.I. Martial Arts Organization, O-Sensei Porter also was honorary president of A.D.D.I. and responsible for the Asia-Pacific area.The chairmanship of A.D.D.I. as well as his family, friends and supporters will miss this extraordinary Martial Artist and we therefore express the deepest condolence to his family, friends and supporters for this heavy loss.His positive effect in Martial Arts will remain in future.
The Funeral and farewell party will take place in circle of the closest family and friends on Friday August 26th 2011, at 1:30 AM at the cemetery of US-Military Academy West Point in NY10996.
